Pemberton hires new partner, Ben Gulliver

Portfolio manager joins as Pemberton continues path towards launching further strategies

Pemberton, the independent asset management group backed by Legal & General, today announces the hire of portfolio manager, Ben Gulliver.

He joins as a partner in the firm and brings 17 years of experience in the global credit markets. Gulliver will work alongside Pemberton’s existing team on the development and launch of new strategies over the coming months.

Before Pemberton, Gulliver spent 4 years at ANZ Bank as Global Head of Credit Trading. Prior to this, he worked for Royal Bank of Scotland for 8 years where he established and led the RBS Special Situations Group, as well as being Head of Credit for Europe and Asia.

Ben’s joining is a further sign of our ambition and our belief in the opportunity we are building at Pemberton for investors. He brings a wide-ranging, deep understanding of the credit industry and an excellent eye for managing risk.

As bank lending continues to retrench, there is a growing need for alternative sources of capital for businesses to access. Institutional investors can fulfil this need, and generate strong, long-term returns at the same time. Our development of further strategies for investors to access this opportunity will be greatly enhanced by Ben’s arrival.

– Symon Drake-Brockman, Managing Partner at Pemberton

The central idea that Symon and his team are focused on, and the approach they have built to bring it to life, have appealed to me from afar for some time. I’m excited to be joining and see Pemberton as the right place to bring my experience of the credit markets to bear as we develop new strategies for investors.

– Ben Gulliver, Partner, Head of Portfolio Management & Co-Head of Direct Lending

Gulliver’s appointment follows the launch of Pemberton’s UK Mid-Market Direct Lending Strategy – the firm’s second strategy, which aims to raise £500m. That strategy is on track for a first close in 2016.
