Pemberton hires Pavol Popp as Portfolio Manager for NAV Financing strategy
Overview
Pemberton, a leading alternative credit specialist, today announced the appointment of Pavol Popp as a Portfolio Manager for its NAV (Net Asset Value) financing strategy.
Pavol brings over 23 years of experience in banking and finance, having established and managed diverse business lines across secured financing, structured credit and financial derivatives structuring, as well as asset and liability management. Pavol joins Pemberton as Managing Director in the NAV financing team where his responsibilities include selection, structuring and risk management of investments.
Prior to joining Pemberton, Pavol was a Managing Director at J.P. Morgan, where he spent 19 years in various leadership roles, including as Global Co-head of Financing Solutions and Head of EMEA Structuring. Pavol holds an M.A. in Finance from the London Business School and an M.A. in International Business from the University of Economics, Bratislava.
The NAV financing strategy, launched last year, extends Pemberton’s partnership with leading private equity houses to provide flexible capital solutions for their management companies, fund vehicles and limited partners. The strategy is a natural continuation of Pemberton’s direct lending products and credit expertise, targeting a portfolio of the same underlying companies but at a later stage in the private equity cycle.
The NAV strategy also integrates Pemberton’s firmwide ESG policies in its investment process. It takes into consideration certain ESG factors when assessing the suitability of prospective borrowers and applies a two-step approach when integrating environmental and social characteristics under article 8 in the investment process, which includes negative and positive screening.
Pavol’s arrival is the latest step in the development of Pemberton’s NAV financing strategy following the hires of Thomas Doyle, a Partner and head of NAV financing strategy and Matthew Kirsch, who brings a wealth of origination, structuring and execution experience in the private equity space. These hires complement the existing platform founded on a network of local origination offices and a separate and independent credit team.
Pavol’s arrival signals our commitment to further deepen the NAV strategy’s position as a core financing partner to the private equity community. With a team of recognised experts, excellent market access and the confidence of sponsors, we are well positioned to offer investors an attractive risk/return profile. Pavol brings considerable experience and credit expertise which will strengthen our ability to service the needs of a large and continually growing market as we continue to see strong demand for our NAV financing strategy.
– Thomas Doyle, Head of the NAV Financing at Pemberton
I’ve known Thomas for many years and followed the growth of Pemberton’s NAV financing platform since its launch – it’s a journey I wanted to be a part of and help drive. With an outstanding track record in the European private credit space, strong relationships with private equity sponsors and a deep in-house credit expertise, Pemberton is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the continued demand for NAV financing.
