Congratulations to the winning team of the inaugural ‘Pemberton Prize for Best Negotiation’. The MBA students at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford really impressed our Chief Credit Officer Nicole Gates throughout the day.
The debt negotiation role play involved a negotiation between teams acting as a bank making an offer to fund an LBO and a private equity sponsor, who was trying to get the best terms from the bank to maximise their own equity return.
Nicole moderated and coached the groups, gave overall feedback to the at the end, and presented the Pemberton Prize to those individual participants who stood out in their approach – looking for understanding of the market, commerciality and an appreciation of the need to drive the negotiation in a professional way.
